Opening Rotations!

Postby Mafrogirrafe » June 18th, 2012, 11:05 am

Hello , dear shadow priests

Just wondering how do you guys open your rotation at Ultraxion lets say.

My thingy:

pre-cast mind spike
flay to 5 stacks , interrupt flay with aa and sf, than another spike + mind blast, 4x mind spike than mind blast , 2 mind spikes + dots and than back to normal.. all of these i meant with 3 orbs on also pre poting or proffesions buffs...

Cheers!

I do Flay to five stacks, pop sf, pop Archangel, MB, MSx3, Flay until MB is up, MB, MSx3, Flay until MB is up, MB, VT, DP, sw:p.

If there will be 2 Bloodlusts during the fight, I hit twilight realm at start with the healers to avoid the first one.

Rotation: Pre-pot, Enter Twilight realm, Flay to five stacks, AA, MB, SF, MSx4, Flay until MB is up, MB, MSx4, Flay until MB is up, MB, VT, DP, SW:P, MB.

With > 3202 haste I find that I can fit in 4 MS before MB gets off cooldown, but with less haste I used to cast only MSx3. If we only do 1 lust, and I take it at the start, I add 1 MS to each series (MSx5).

(Also, Arlee: AA = 18 sec, SF = 15 sec. I am pretty sure it's a DPS increase to do AA, MB, SF instead of SF, AA, MB)

The reason I started to do SF first is because there seemed to often be a delay on when my sf hits so that even with the cast time of MB sometimes I wouldn't proc the 3 orbs until right after my sf hit. Hitting the SF first I find I get my MB off with 3 orbs and before the second swing much more reliably.

never heard of the msx3 and mf until mb is off cd. on ultraxion you can look at any top parse and see we just spam ms until mb is 1-1.5 seconds off cd and hold 3 orbs for the mb. myself as an opener i go with mfx5/sf/aa/mb msx5or6 then hold for 3 orbs and mb do it again. and end with vt/swp/dp and mb again and continue with a normal dot rotation until both are up.

Weaving MF in to the burst rotation does 2 things:

1) It allows you to build stacks of DE so that when you go back to your normal rotation and apply dots they will be at full strength since you've already got 5 stacks of DE.

2) If you have DI, weaving MF in allows you to (hopefully) keep the DI stacks up for the warlock by getting MF crit ticks (since MF is treated like a DoT). It's the least you can do to help keep your warlock friend happy (and keep them giving you DI instead of giving it to someone else!). :)

Also, it fills the gap between the MS and MB, so that you are always casting and to ensure that the MB always has orbs.

I get that but it's still a dps loss for yourself.

I imagine it pretty much balances out in the end since MF benefits from Archangel, and you won't lose dps at the end by putting up dots without 5 stacks of DE, and then having to refresh VT once you do get 5 stacks.

Ppl who are saying that the cancelaura Mind Spike way is better than filling one GCD with MF, must also remember that hardcasting MB also activates your CD one second later than if you do go the way with one MF and instant MB.

I'm currently going with a Hitcap > Mastery > Haste > Crit prio (have DI). With 19.45 Mastery (the highest I can get) and 2377 Haste.

My opener is always: Pre-Pot, Precast VT if possible, MF for 5 stacks of Evang, MSx2, SF and AA, instant MB with 3 orbs, 4 MS, MF, instant MB, 3 MS, VT and SW:P, MB. With higher Haste (2.6kish) I used to do 4 MS both times, but I I'm finding that I don't have time for the 4th MS with my current Haste. If Hero is up, add another MS inbetween each MB. It also depends on how fast your SF hits. It's annoying, but sometimes I get 3 orbs the exact second I pop the SF, and sometimes it almost feels like I'm holding back MB and doing nothing for 2 seconds before I get my first 3 orbs.

Doing it this way allows all 3 of my MBs to crit with 3 orbs (unless I'm very unlucky on my first MB), and gets the dots back up again pretty fast.

The Shadow Priest buff/nerf cycle: Being underpowered for 8 months in Ulduar and ToC, no problem. Being overpowered for 2 days --> hotfix nerfed.
