Going From Tank To Priest

Going From Tank To Priest

Postby GeekieDave » April 15th, 2012, 11:17 pm

How's everyone doing these days?
So I decided to try something new for MoP and I want to make a priest. My question is this. What would be the best route for me to go from being the tank to being the healer/dps? I've not really done much in the healing aspect, But I've been wanting to learn so that I can needed by my guild a little more. So what say you?

Dont quite get what youre asking here =)

If you really want to heal I'd level through dungeons and heal my way up, using quests as fillers between dungeons.

Just be aware that 5 man healing and raid healing is quite different =)

I was just wondering if there was a certain way to go about leveling, etc.. Just wanting to learn to heal as a priest and I'm going to probably roll one here in a bit. What spec is the best for leveling do you think?

If you want to be a healer (and only a healer), then I suggest leveling that way doing a dungeon grind. As stated previously, it's a big different going from 5 mans to raid healing, but it'd be much easier than going from zero healing experience to raid healing.

Also if you are planning on leveling now in prep for MoP I would recommend leveling as disc until lvl 70ish regardless of what spec you want to end up playing. It is just currently the easiest spec to level.

As a former tank turned priest honestly if you want to heal or dps depends on what you think you might enjoy. With duel specs there is no reason not to try both you might be surprised. I originally made my priest to heal, and I enjoyed that, but my raid group needed to me to switch to shadow so I did an now it's pretty hard to get me to heal.

So does everyone go tank to priest? My main from the time I started playing(late MC)to the end of firelands was my Paladin, who went prot the second we got Righteous Defense and the other tanking goodies. Honestly I just turned my alt into my main....there is not a whole lot to really say about it, I spent a bit more time on the target dummy, did more theorycrafting instead of asking the other shadow priests, wut I do? Really it's about embracing the character as your new main for whatever reason you are doing it for, and treating it as such PRIOR to making the change so there is a seamless transition.

I busted my ass to be as geared as possible when the change happened and I was competitive dps from day one, and within two weeks I was top on almost every fight....then the rogues started getting legendaries lol(still they rarely can touch me on Ultraxion).

It sounded like you were interested in knowing how to make yourself more valuable to your guild? I would also say, learning the basics THOROUGHLY, meaning all your cooldown's, crowd control abilities, ways you can control your threat as a priest will be huge. Dual speccing and having the flexibility to change from dps to healing without batting an eye will be very nice as well. I love priests and play my boyfriend's character since he takes large breaks, my main raiding/guild experience is with my hunter, but I think being valuable to a build will be the same no matter what class you are:) Dig in, do the dirty work of learning your class through and through and be a flexible team player when you show up! :D
