Have Questions re: Shadow Priest PvP Stat Priority

Postby Gwynfor » December 30th, 2011, 2:03 pm

I've been reading Searsha's PvP guide, and it's a big help, since I don't have much PvP experience with any class. I do, however, have two questions about stat priority for my Shadowy avatar:

1) How important is Resilience? I've heard from multiple places that it's the #1 PvP stat, and we should take all we can get, but we don't gem for it, and enchants only give another 100 points of Resilience. This is consistent with what I've read elsewhere, so I assume that that's the case because:
  1. we're already using all the available Resilience enchants, and
  2. gemming for Intellect means greater damage and self-heals, which is as powerful as Resilience, but more versatile.
What do I do with this information, though? Are they saying that I should prioritize Resilience when buying new gear? Or are they explaining why I shouldn't PvP in PvE gear?

2) Is Spirit just as (un)important as Hit? With my starter PvP set (9-piece Vicious Embersilk set, plus my PvE weapon, rings, necklace, and trinkets) and the Twisted Faith talent, I'm already at 9% hit without enchants. Is it worthwhile to reforge any of that Spirit into Haste?

Here's my thoughts I am a gladiator shadow priest. I find resiliance being the strongest stat for sure up to a point. I try not to go above 42% damage reduction thats roughly 4300 resil i believe because after that the diminishing returns from it are to big I think. That being said you want to gem for as much int as possible i dont gem for any blue slots but one to get the 4% hit cap in pvp I prioritze INT as much as bossible I use Int Resil in yellow slots the reason for this is because I use legendary and Heroic rag pve trinket! In full cataclysmic gear it may be worth it for you to gem for int haste in the yellow slots.

For the spirit yes reforge it all to haste your hit cap in pvp is 4% so getting as close to that as possible while maximizing haste and int is what you want to do.

I do the occasional BG, Tol Barad, and I have tried my hand at Arena. I see what you mean about the higher levels of resiliance, I have had it over 5100 and that extra really does not see to help much. I am going to regem tonight for more Intellect.

But I had a question. At our levels of mana, is it worth the 2 points in Mental Agility to save 7% instant cast cost or would they be better spent on Improved Power word Shield, for an extra 20% damage absorbtion.

I have seen some huge hits against me recently in the 40k+ range. Didn't know if it would help reduce the damage more or cause the sheild to drop faster.

Still learning PvP so bear with me if it is a noobish question.

@Marathel

Your best bet is to roll with allot of resil my thought's on gearing have deffinately changed since my last post. With your spec mess around with points try new things it can't hurt especially if you're only doing the occasional bg and a little of arena you have allot room to try new things. Remember though you shouldn't be having to many mana problems with SW:d above 25% does give you 10% mana back everytime used.
