Shadow priest the best class in PVP now?

I have done a few duels recently. Dumb me thought I was smart by disenchanting all my Cata Gladiator gear prior to 5.0.4 So I only have the 377 I could whip up.

I went toe to toe with a ret pally in 397+ from my guild. Duel lasted a few minutes. Out in Halaa I managed to hold my own against another Pally. Last night a DK challenged me. I shut them down and it was over in about 45 seconds.

Are we OP? no I do not believe so, but I do feel that we are viable, and have more tools than we have had in the past.

Honestly, just the fact that we no longer have to give up 15% dps to have the ability to interrupt that most classes had baseline... is a major improvement from like the last 3 expansions.

So can't wait for those sweet sweet rogue Halo related tears.

We should bottle them and produce a new line of shadowpriest energy drinks.

I do not know what I am doing wrong. Completly honest question.

If I am attacked out of stealth by cheap shot I have to use insignia. Rogue counters with kidney shot. Afterwards I can fear, MB, Dot maybe.
Rogue blinds, vanishs (eventually cloaks) and attacks when cheap shot is ready again to go on with a six sec. Kidney Shot.

After that phase they eventually vanish and sap to reopen with cheap shot and a kick ready. Then he has so much pressure .... it's impossible for me to handle it.
(I did't count paralytic poison here)

Maybe I make somthing completly wrong and you can help me.

I agree you can beat rogues if they don't play carefully an just try to burst you down. But If they use all their cc in addition with vanish and repeat I have no idea what to do.

Woaden wrote:Similiar with the Rogue. We have much more CC than them now.

That is not the complete truth. We have Fear, PH, Roots. They have:
Sap, Blind, Cheap Shot, Kidney Shot, Paralytic poison/dirty tricks, Gouge.

Don't get me wrong. SPs are (at 85) viable agsinst so many classes and I enjoy to be viable ..... but against rogues which are played properly.... maybe I miss the skill....

Don't ever use your trinket on cheapshot- save it for Kidney.

Against a good rogue, you are going to probably play the outlast them game. Constant shields/renew/pom on yourself and keep up dots/mb on cooldown. If you know a kidney is coming, pop Psyfiend so the kidney is either wasted or the rogue blows CoS to stay on you. Another neat trick is if you can anticipate a blind, pop your shadowfiend so they can't easily re-stealth.

Don't forget that if you trinket the first kidney, you can use dispersion on the second.

LMAO, nice. Rogue's QQ'ing over pvp is the best thing ever! It's like... think I would forget getting ganked outside of Kara while trying to summon my raid?!? hmmm!?! Here, eat a three flavour fear cake while I disperse through your cooldowns.

I see a lot of talk in 1 v 1 which is cool. My biggest cheer in BG's includes the ability to handle multiple enemies at once - this is especially key in domaniance games (AB, BfG, EotS) because 1 v 3 or 4 leaves the balance heavily in your team's favor ESPECIALLY if you can create that fight away from the node you are trying to cap thus allowing a teammate to walk right in.

Between Glyph of DB for HOTS, dispersion, Void Tendrils - and quick DOT targeting - SP can now be a royal pain in the (self edit).

I will certainly carry this strategy into RBG season even above straight up damage.

I definitely don't think Shadow Priests are op. In fact, I think they are in dire need of retuning.

For starters,

1) we have no burst CD (aka personal CD unless you spec Power Infusion). Virtually all other classes have at least 2.

2) We are a DoT class, and our DoT DPS is a joke. Even at lvl 90 we are mathematically lower than an affliction lock.
(good post on the issues with this: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/6308612711)

3) Orb generation takes at min, 30 seconds to fully charge (due to the CD on MB). In a pvp battle, 30 seconds is a long time, to build up then hold your DPS burst. This means we cannot use DP or Psychic Scream lest we lose our orb build up for burst damage. I'm not even going to talk about SW:D in terms of Orb Generation because at 20% hp (when SW:D is usable, you should be bursting, not generating orbs, so that mechanic is totally useless on SW:D, plus it has a 6 second CD...

4) Overall DPS is very low.

5) Our 2 non damage breaking CC has been reduced to 1.5 CCs - Silence being the best choice but only affecting casters. Psychic Scream is shadow orb based (on duration) and forces orb consumption. Other classes have at least 2 forms of CC where the only restriction is the CD. We have a CD AND require orbs to use this. Sure we have fear, but now other classes have more fear mitigating abilities. In order for fear to be beneficial you have to chain it in the beginning to force trinket pops, spell use (to put them on CD) then recycle them again after your CD are up. That makes the first 30 seconds of the fight for you pretty much only doing DoT dps (which stated previously is low).

6) SW:D...complete joke in terms of DPS and kill mechanics. 6-8 second cooldown on an ability that you can only use when your opponent is at 20% health. It's a finisher that doesn't have the power to kill unless it uber crits or your opponent is at 10% and frankly by then, dot's and mindflay or an instacast mindblast would finish them off.

Yes we have fear chains, but when your DoT damage is low, and you have no effective burst damage to finish the job. You have to rely on that gimmick to happen repeatedly. LOL chain fear lock anyone? That's already been proven to be a novice strategy and easily prevented with a well timed trinket and silence/fear. There are just way too many fear mitigating abilities across all classes to make this a solid pvp strategy. Basically the only people you'll be killing with this strat are inexperienced pvp players or just plain getting lucky because your opponent didn't have his CDs.

Lastly, I think this class in general has lost its feel. It doesn't feel like playing a shadow priest anymore. It feels more like playing a discipline priest back in Vanilla when the disc tree was lol. I suspect many of us old timer SPriests are going to reroll affliction locks. I sincerely hope blizz comes to their senses and fixes this class. It's the first class I ever played and I still play it (despite the fact that I think it's broken - in a bad way.)
