Dueling SP vs Mage

Out of all the classes Ive been dueling right now, I think mage is giving me the hardest time. In fact I don't even feel like I can give any sense of competition since they steam roll me with taking little to no damage. Wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way, or is there a easy way to come out on top that I havn't figured out yet?

Hey. I love to duel as a SP, so I basically spend most of my wow time dueling. There are only two classes that I can't beat, warriors and hunters.
Dueling mages is quite easy. I am full pvp (normal blue weapon) and I win most of the time versus mages with pvp weapons. You didn't specify if they were frost or fire. My tactic is to get three orbs before the duel, I know it's unfair but since I have no pvp weapons, it evens it out.

You got to have the opener. If he uses invisibility, you should use halo, followed by a fade (phantasm) so he won't silence/poly you.

I put SW:P and start dispelling, as soon as I dispel his ice barrier I cast devouring plague + VT. From then on, you should always use spectral guise to survive the deep freeze and use the rest of your cooldowns in a good timing. =)

This is how I play, it might not be the best way... but it works for me. =)

As I said, the only classes I lose to in duels are warriors and hunters. If you have the same gear as your opponent, if should be very easy to win versus any other class (maybe with the exception of mages). Both phantasm and spectral guise are very usefull cds, I would also advise you to time your shadowfiend with your 3 orbs devouring plague, that can do a huge burst.

The problem with dueling as a SP, is that there's no Swifty's version of shadow priests. It would be so much easier. ^^

Duels agasint warriors and BM hunters are really hard. Mages can be hard - if they spec into frostjaw, we will probably die. Having said all that. I guise from the start and try to get a psyfiend right on top of them. From there you can do VT SWP MB and DP - silence and drop your puppy. phantasm out of their roots to stay close to them so you get a psy scream on them and their pet. I like Dark Binding, Inner Sanct and the mind spike glyphs for this fight. The 6% magic reduction and the speed you can cast MB after instant MS will help never get you the long counterspell. My $0.02
