[Shadow] Question - Help - Devouring Plague

I've noticed that a lot of the top shadow priest on world of logs have devouring plague doing the top damage done or in the top three. I can't seem to get this anywhere close to being one of my top 3 abilities.

I wait for three orbs and once I have three it's my priority spell to use. I'm I missing something? Does this have something to do with being soft haste capped?

If you have any logs that would help pinpoint the problem. Chances are you aren't getting as many DP casts off as other SPriests either because you aren't casting Mind Blast and Shadow Word: Death (sub-20%) on cooldown, so you don't have as many orbs to cast DPs with, or, the Priests you're comparing yourself with have DI for their T5/Level75 talent and have procs to cast more Mind Blasts (which leads to more orbs, more DPs...).

I don't have last nights logs but I do have Elegon on Sunday and looking at this log it does look like Devouring Plague is my 3rd spell... maybe my recount isn't reading correctly because I was sure that it wasn't.

Doesn't look like you're missing any DP casts.

Are you casting DP on Elegon *only* when you're standing on the platform (for the damage buff)? That could be a source of lost damage.

Why aren't you using ToF and Cascade on Elegon? Both are stupidly OP in this fight. I've gotten 62% uptime on ToF thanks to adds and DoTing sparks before they 'die', and Cascading off Elegon hits all of the sparks for spark #s 1/3/5 (with ToF effects on #3 and #5), and then you can bounce it off the pillars too when they come up before the floor despawns. A lot of the DP casts on Elegon during the spark phase will also have ToF active...

For DP I'm thinking recount is playing tricks with me after reviewing MY logs more carefully.

I'm guessing ToF is Twist of Fate, I love Divine Insight for the orbs having that instant MB to take it down since I struggle on the 4th set of orbs. I'm guessing I really don't understand the mechanics of ToF I may have to play around with it in LFR to understand what you are saying. Halo I like as more of a soft raid cool down to help with healing, I did read about cascading off of Elegon to hit the sparks and I most likely will do that this week.

Thanks Twintop for the help! I saw a great improvement on Will of the Emperor this week using Cascade and Twist of Fate. I didn't get a chance to use it on Elegon but since WotE has so many adds I figured I'd try them out on him.

I had about a 60% uptime on ToF...
