Disclaimer
This is a "Quick Guide" for Shadowpriest gearing in patch 5.0 (pre-expansion). The goal for this guide is to help players adjust to the new changes in the few weeks between patch 5.0 and the Mists of Pandaria expansion.


Stat Weights
Settings: Simcraft v. 504-1, BIS list "Priest_Shadow_T13H.simc", 250,000 iterations, Patchwerk, Mindbender (L45), Twist of Fate (L75).

1. Intellect: 1.0
2. Hit/Spirit: 0.7474
3. Spellpower: 0.7457
4. Haste: 0.6725
5. Crit: 0.5483
6. Mastery: 0.5139

Reforging
Do your reforging in this order:

1. If an item does not have Haste on it, reforge it for the maximum amount of Haste.
2. If an item has not been reforged for Haste and it does not have Spirit/Hit on it, reforge the Crit/Mastery to Spirit or Hit.
3. If you are over 15% Hit, trade Spirit/Hit for Crit. If you are under 15% hit, sacrifice Haste for Hit until you reach 15%.

Your aim with reforging should be to reach 15% Hit while having as much Haste as possible.

legs: Powerful Ghostly Spellthread
feet: Haste (Lavawalker for momevent speed)

Talents
Level 15 - your choice
Level 30 - your choice
Level 45
- From Darkness Comes Light seems like the best (default) choice
- Mindbender use as a dps cd (hagara, spine)
Level 60
- Angelic Bulwark will save you a GCD since it activates automatically
Level 75
- Twist of Fate seems like the best (default) choice
- Power Infusion use as a dps cd (hagara, spine)
- Divine Insight may be a little better for fights where you can multidot a lot (not many opportunities in DS)


Glyphs
Major Glyphs
Dark Binding - if you need to cast some healing spells without popping out of shadowform
Fade - looks useful to reduce predictable damage
Inner Sanctum - looks useful to reduce damage
Levitate - looks like it might help for a quick run speed bonus
Mind Spike - looks like it would combine with FDCL level 45 talent for a very mild dps increase

Shadow - see your gear better
Shadow Ravens - changes the shadow orb graphic

I've got 504-5 version simcraft and when I run my profile @ 85 with 15% hit, no wand (Head enchant still on just cause i dont have a second helm.) im getting Int>Hit=Spi>SP>Haste>Crit>Mast up to 2436 haste where it becomes Crit=Haste then from 2440 on it goes crit>Haste>Mastery with haste and mastery jumping places depending on talent choice.

Is haste ramping back up at a certain point? I have not had time to run more than a half dozen sims or so.

Is haste ramping back up at a certain point? I have not had time to run more than a half dozen sims or so.

There should be a minor spike on the value of Haste as you approach the VT+2 haste breakpoint at 3051 haste.

Yeah I just was running sims with 3287 haste and it spiked back above crit. Dropped it down to 3056 haste and gained 31 DPS with crit=haste>mastery. Think I found my sweet spot. Thanks.

For the rest of the expansion and farming boring ass DS HC, would you consider Mindbender or FDCL along with TOF to be better for the majority or encounters? i can only spare 1 spec for shadow, i have to keep a spare disc spec so i can only choose one. thanks for the work on this.

He covers that pretty simply under the talents portion. I'll personally be more likely to just use Mindbender over FDCL since it's just DS for a few weeks.

on beta u can delete head enchants by putting the item in your void storage. dunno if it will work on tuesday too.

Talents can be swapped on the fly my friend. One shadow spec is all you need. Talent hot swaps only require you to be our of combat and have the proper reagent.

Thought of that but didn't figure it was worth losing the gems also to find out if I would lose 10 or 20 dps :) Thanks though!

Is it realistic to shoot for 3289 haste for VT+2 or stick with 2589 for SWP+2 and then rank mastery > haste? The only set I can come up with that can even hit 3289 is full best in slot with haste on gloves and boots. All statistics and probability of having a full best in slot set (that includes two 1% shared drop slots) aside, is it realistic to expect that in a "quick" gear guide?

We lost the 3% haste buff from Darkness, so the 2589 has increased to 3051 Haste to get VT+2. Much past that is, basically, impossible/impractical to try and obtain.
