When I started back in 2005, i first played as a Hunter to lvl 40 in Vanilla Wow. My boyfriend at that time just started playing and had created a Hunter. I saw it to be pointless to play around as two hunters to be fighting for gear, and to make it easier to PVP/raid at 60, I rolled as a Holy priest to keep us alive. I liked the holy spells and the simplicity of the healing as a priest that i remained holy all through Kara and ZA's Early Days.

it wasn't until I was recommended to xfer to a different realm to be a Main Healer in Echo Isles 2nd top Raiding Guild at the time BC rolled in, that they had also asked me to have a OS as Dps. Just before the Famous Nerf to the Naga Queen and Keal, I permanently went Shadow and enjoyed every moment of Dpsing.

Since then I have been Shadow without any intentions of Healing again...Thats what my Holy Pally is for =)

I see that it's been a while since anyone has posted in this thread, but I enjoyed reading everyone's story and thought I would share my own.

I've played the game since Vanilla, but never raided "seriously" until ICC due to computer issues. My main at the time was my Warlock, and I've always considered myself to be very skilled at the class.

When Cataclysm hit, my guild's man 25 man raid broke off into 4 10 man raids. I love the one I joined, but we had some bad staffing issues that hurt us quite a bit in the beginning. Having 5 caster DPS (2 Warlock, 2 Mages, and 1 Moonkin) wasn't helping matters, so I decided to take one for the team and reroll a healer.

I chose a Priest (though regretted it at times due to the Warrior, Hunter, Shaman token's tenancy to drop over and over in our raid). I felt that it would be an easy transition from a Warlock DPS wise and I also thought two healing trees would prevent me from getting bored.

I decided to sit myself during raids (or pass on gear when I was needed in the roster), and instead power level my new Priest from 1-85. I was able to do this in a couple of weeks, and leveled the majority of the time as AA Discipline. I made it to 60 or so without ever leaving Orgrimmar.

Once I hit 85 I was almost immediately needed to heal due to more staffing issues. My raid leader had some strong issues and misconceptions with Discipline, and I was pushed into Holy at the start of T11.

Now I play any and all of the three specs as needed and love them all. My once treasured Warlock has been left to rot. I greatly enjoy Priest healing when there is a challenge (it gets a little boring in farm content), and I still love the DPS complexity of Shadow.

I'm never looking back.

Why did you choose to play a Priest?

Postby Bamshackle » March 21st, 2012, 2:30 pm

Back in Vanilla I rolled a Dwarf Hunter an spent the next 4 months getting to level 60. I had heard about this awesome boss named Onxyia and how you had to have 40 people to kill her. I started looking for a raiding guild but was turned down because no one needed a Hunter. DPS was overflowing on my server, and they were short on healers. I really wanted to fight Onxyia and so I rolled a Priest. The rest is history, and I still play with that character as my main. As for Onxyia, she has been killed by me at least 117 times both in the original raid, the new raid, and solo.

I loved healing on my druid, but didn't ever click with boomkin dps, or feral. for some reason. I really wanted a character that could heal and dps. Friends suggested a priest, so I rolled one and LOVE it. I love being shadow priest, and still being able to heal a bit, and being disc/AA, and still dpsing a bit. I have also tried holy, and disc without AA, and really, I just love priests.

I've played a Mage most of my time in WoW, but sometime during LK I decided to get myself a Priest. I chose Priest because I find it to be a very versatile caster class that balanced well between direct healing spells, absorption spells and damage-mitigation over time. I recently started over on a new server (didn't transfer) with a Priest that I'm currently leveling. I'll be healing as I get easily bored being a DPS, and I like to be doing a lot of things at the same time, not to mention that I love healing.

Going from a Mage to a caster class capable of healing, the Priest class seemed like an obvious choice.

My wife started playing almost 8 months before me 2 months into Wrath on a new player server. She played, I spent my evenings looking up quests on Thotbot.

She had a couple of friends, a Hunter, a Mage, and a Paly, she had a Warrior. They use to ride to dungeons, and go in kill things, eat and bandage up between fights, and somehow managed to get them done.

So when she needed a new computer to play, I got the hand me down, funny calling a $1500 gaming computer a hand me down, and they convinced me to roll up a healer. Now in my D&D days I always played a druid, but the hunter had a druid, so they told me I should play a priest, cause they stand back and do heals, they could get me through some higher level dungeons and I could level fast.

Eventually I was within 8 levels of them, about the time patch 3.3 came out, they were 80's in a raiding guild, I was burned out on following around tossing heals as fast as I could. So I read Shadow was getting some love, and I switched.

Since then I have done a lot on my little priest. Finished Wrath about a week after Cata came out, and Now I have cleared everything in Cata prior to the end. In Mists I hope to maybe try some heroics. The game is not easy for me, I learned to play video games when the Atari 2600 was state of the art.

My wife and I play WoW almost every night, we even raid together which makes call outs pretty easy, especially when she is running low on mana since now "She" is the healer on her Shammy.

We love the game, we love the people.

I started playing as a Paladin back in vanilla, went prot the second the bc patch hit...didn't look back and never really had an alt until the end of Wrath then I caught a bit of alt fever, had a 80 DK, Warrior, and a lvl 60 priest(disc). I then transferred horde, and when 4.0 patch hit I wanted to see the amazing undead starting zone everyone was talking about, so I figured why not start another priest, this time I played shadow and fell in love even at low levels. Started doing alt raids, was doing the legendary thing in firelands. Towards the end of firelands I started noticing a lot of apathy towards the main raid, and I realized I didn't want to tank.

Through brainstorming I realized I didn't want to tank because it had become a joke, looking back at being the add tank on Heroic Anub, to being the Ghoul/shambling tank/dispeller in p1 on H Lk, being the valk tank, the vile spirit tank on H LK, Skeleton tanking on H Nef, somehow pulling off solo tanking H Valiona on 25...to what? Firelands was the easiest thing ever to tank, it was a complete joke to me and I saw DS was the same...so I switched, with the reasoning that we our other tank was amazing in his own right, and that the raid would be best served with one of us DPSing. So logically the guy who had the orange should.

I fell in love with shadow leveling because unlike many other dps classes it does take skill and management. I don't think I will ever play anything else again.

Have had some changes since I started to play right before wrath release.
Started off with a ret paladin, after trying DK, I ended up with a Resto druid for the rest of wrath exp.
When cata came, the way of healing was changed to the point of going oom after a trash pack was just not fun. Took a hunter and had fun levling it up, gearing some up with dungeons at 85, til I took a break from WoW.

When I came back after 3 months break, I had forgot how to play the hunter, and I didnt enjoy healing with the druid either, so I made a Priest, and have never looked back.

The levling was fast and fun, couldnt wait to get to next lvl to see what the new spell would do. There was times it didnt look like a good dps class, as being low on the dmg meter mostly, because the targets were dead before the dots could tick some, and they had aoe.
But I still enjoyed playing.
All in all I've had fun all the way with my priest, and more fun after I got into raiding with it last summer.

So that I choose to play a Priest, was kind of random, but seems like it was meant to be.
And I've found that Priest is the class for me, because either I'm on the top of dmg, or on the bottom, I enjoy it, its fun to be a priest.
Doing good dmg, the support you can be to the raid group, the survivability. Priest have so much other classes dont have.

I chose to play a priest because since I was playing my first RPG Ragnarok Online I was amazed how powerful priests are and thought it will be same with World of warcraft, and I proved it right! Priest maybe difficult to level during Burning Crusade compare now a days, but I loved it. Priest are awesome and powerful like any other characters in WoW. =)

I work in a gaming company for 7 years. In the first 2.5years everyone around me was talking about WOW. I was even watching ppl playing for hours but i always said that i will not start playing wow because i knew i will never stop :)
As i said after 2.5y of hearing ppl taking about WOW and watching them playing and even lots of them asking and begging me to start playing, a friend of mine came to me and said the magic words:"You can play 10days trial up to level 20 to see how it is" In two days after playing the trial i bought WOW :)
Started as a warlock but failed(I've made a warlock on alliance side on Magtheridon at the time when Nihilum existed there). At level 32 in STV I've cracked and said that i will never play on a PVP server ever again. Few days later the same friend that told me about the trial told me that he is playing on a PVE server. I asked what does his guild needs and he said Shadow Priest. That is how i got to play a Shadow Priest for almost 4 years now. I love this class, i love the shadow spec(i do play healer from time to time) and i love the fact that i get to be in such an awesome community that H2P is.
I want to say thx to Veiled for doing an awesome job with this site and also i want to say thx to Koiile for all the hours I've watched his stream. Thx you guys for everything.
