Can my macro overide default keybinds? How?

Postby TheShepherd » September 25th, 2011, 3:11 am

I'm trying to use this macro:

/cast [mod:shift] Heal;[mod:ctrl] Renew;[mod:alt] Penance; Flash Heal
/s The Light shall soothe thine wounds.

However, when I push Shift #, instead of casting heal, it moves my action bar to that page. When I press control, either nothing happens, and when I press Alt, it opens up a crafts window.

Additional advice?
I'd like to apply the target target or target focus or target party member 1 or something to the set, so if I end up with a mob instead of friendly in my sights I can still heal or if I loose all targets I don't accidentilly heal myself instead of tank.

Twice in dungean crawling yesterday, I'm spamming my heal button wondering why the tanks isn't getting hp back and ends up dead before noticing he somehow slipped out of my 'target' or I ended up targeting his mob by mistake and was wasting heals on myself instead of him.

I can just imagine you jumping around, spamming bags open and closed, action bars spinning and repeatedly yelling 'The Light shall soothe thine wounds' while people drop dead around you. I bet it's bloody hilarious.

It sounds as if you just need to remove the default bindings. Press escape, go to keybinds, find whatever it is that's bound to the same as your cast modifiers and remove or change it.

I do wonder why you're adding all your primary spells to one button modifiers. Personally I'd recommend giving the spells you cast most the most comfortable buttons you possible can - 1, 2, 3, 4, Q, E, F, G, X etc. Don't make your poor hand play Twister. Click to cast using the Clique and Grid frames addons - or mouse over cast macros also really help some people. Use modifiers for less used spells or for targeting focus targets or something.

As for your additional help, this sounds like two things to me. First, it sounds like panic. There's no reason, if you're comfortable, not to realise that you don't have a target or you've suddenly targeted a mob. The second thing I'd guess is you might be using an inappropriate UI. The default WoW unit frame positioning is terrible. If your target frame is near the center of your field of view - it should be almost impossible for the situation you describe to occur without you noticing.

Half the battle with being comfortable and allowing yourself to have more spacial awareness is having pertinent information (what you currently have targeted certainly falls under this!) you need where you can easily see it and logical key bindings.

Oh, and ditch the /say. It'll only wind people up - although this isn't necessarily always a bad thing. Second thoughts, change it to /say SMITELOL.

Yes. The tank's like "WTF healer what are you doing over there?"
I'm like, "My buttons is broke :-(s"

'kay, I'll try that; thanks.

-I do wonder why you're adding all your primary spells to one button modifiers.
I've got a shield button, dps button, heal button(s), buff button,
I'm trying to set up sequential casting on most of them, but it's not neccesry for the target heal spells.

- 1, 2, 3, 4, Q, E, F, G, X etc. Don't make your poor hand play Twister.
Each macro button is set to the 1,2,3,4 respectively.

I don't want to mess with add on's just yet.
Mouseover isn't to great for me at the moment because I play from a laptop without an external mouse. When I move to desktop and/or get external mouse, it'll be better, but at the moment I find key based targeting better then trying to aim with the pad mouse.

Several times I've clearly had the tank targed, than turnd my attention away from him to get a move to a better vantge point, notice on the party menue his hp is dropping so I click pennance or flash heal, and somehow he wasn't targeted anymore. I figure if I keep him as focus and perhaps add a target=focus or whatever, it would eliminate this litte problem. It might be caused by my hand resting too much wait on the mousepad for all I know, it ends up targeting on some random thing in front of it?

My smite macro has
/say Hear me, servant of darkness: by the power of The Light, I smiteth thee.

heh, heh.

This is giving me it's own problems though.
I've recently replaced my smite macro with the atonement macro. However, I can't get flavor text to work with sequential casting. I end up standing there waving my arms emphatically declaring my actions in a profound manner; but not casting anything. I hoped I could have flavor text on the first and/or last spell in the sequence

Just to clarify, I play on an rp server The Sentinels, I like my macros to have emotes and flavor texts and stuff in them. I can only make them work for single cast spells though and am wondering If more complicated macro can't also have flavor text that applies to it andor components of it and still allow the macro to work.

Otherwise I end up with all my most useful macros not having any zing which seems to me to defeat the purpose of playing rp.

Similarly, I'd like to know if flavortext/emotes can be added to target conditions. i.e., in combat wth a nodead target, cast X, if target is (has become) dead, /say "victory, Huzzah! /dance
for like final fantasy moments.

For my Target heal macro, their is apparently a way to set the mods to cast penance on my focus (the tank), cast flash heal on my target (melee dps group member) cast heal on myself, and cast renew on my targets target if my target is harm.

Is this supposed to allow me to cast several spells while the proceeding spell is in cooldown? Is there a way to sewuence this?

When the time comes, renew is being replaced with greater heal and pennance with binding heal, and heal with PoH.
Can I have the macro cas inner focus before casting any of the heals? Can I replace the cast command for PoH with a cast sequence command that includes PI and AA, and possibly PoM, and still have it be part of this sme macro rather than another one?

If not, can I attach that sequence to my attonement macro as a single mod command?

New question:
I'm now playing around with 'outfits', like fisherman, cook, Farmer, Miner, Banker, Pirate, etc. Some of my outfits have use functions.

I remember reading their is a /equipset command or something, and know that /13 and /14 apply to the trinket slots, but what about everything else? My fishing hat for example has a use function that equips a lure to my fishing pole.

How do I make a macro that will for example 1st equip my fishing outfit, next, apply all the use functions of that outfit, then cast the fishing line; indefinitly until I am done fishing; and finally, switch back to my primary (questing/dungeons/battlegrounds) outfit. I'd also of course like to add in some flavor text or emotes too.
