Struggling returnee
by PrettiSad » 07 Jan 2018, 15:05
Hello everyone!
First and foremost thank you for taking your time to read my post and provide any advice and or guidance.
I've returned to WoW and of course I love disc priest! Its my favorite class, but I'm really struggling.
https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/chara ... ore/pretti
According to a few raids now, everyone seems to expect me to do 800k+ in healing. On my next raid I will do the /combatlog and upload it to warcraftlogs.com
Usually during fights what I'm doing is applying atonement to 8+ targets (usually popping rapture then PW:S or 2x PW:R) then I'm penancing the boss then smite. Throughout the fight I'm using plea & PW:S to keep up atonements.
I feel so defeated when my raid becomes unhappy with my healing and even now I'm unhappy. With the above method I'm running out of mana so fast even with PW:S mana talent.
Should I be studying the fights more to know when mass damage on the raid occurs? I'm really lost and don't want to learn another class specialization, discipline is my favorite!
Any guidance or advice? Thank you. FYI during Antorus Normal, I had my healing at around 450k~ per boss fight. with the current setup that I've linked at the top of this post.

Hi there!
Glad to hear you're enjoying Disc.
Ultimately the best help can be provided with those logs for sure. Make sure you have advanced combat logging turned on as well.
For a lot of general tips and help check out my guide which will be tailored specifically to AtBT. Knowing the fights is an essential part to all healers, more importantly for disc. This is because Disc is far more preemptive than others, meaning you need to plan atonement application for incoming damage.
As far as the hps numbers are concerned that can depend on the content your doing and the number of healers you have. If your logs end up showing 50%+ overhealing then highest hps at that point is more down to sniping (even more so in normal). However, at your ilvl it is possible to reach even more than 800k. I know that my alt priest at 942 can.
I would only ramp up atonement for a blanket raid-wide coverage when Evangelism is available. I would do with with Plea/PW:S x5-7 -> PW:Rx2 -> Evangelism (which needs to be done a good 12-15 seconds before damage hits). As far as ramping up is concerned, I would recommend using Rapture outside of this combo as a lot of AtBT encounters have constant ticking damage.
Taking a look at your character your haste is very high. I hope you haven't sacrificed ilvl to try reach that value. In raids, I'm happy to sit at 25% haste but my highest ilvl pieces tend to sit at around 28%. This leads me to your point about mana. At this amount of haste I suspect that you are trying to apply far too much Plea at all times. This is one of the most common mistakes with regards to mana management.
Lastly, it's in my guide but worth a mention here just in case, Purge the Wicked. You want to maintain this DoT during a fight as much as possible. This is to give you the Power of the Dark Side buff, as well as constant HoT healing.
Hope this helps, if you want quicker help feel free to pop into our discord and ask in #discipline. :D
